If the Mail article is to be believed (a big 'IF') then I would be amazed if this ever gets to the statute books. Backlash isn't the word...more like massive vote loser.

Quite like the other proposals on the list though.

Lets hope the speedometers are all calibrated or the 10% inaccuracy could be a problem!

Do I need to set the Delorean to go past or future?

They quote the minister as saying, "We are not interested in penalising the law-abiding motorists, the vast majority of drivers". It's not my perception that the vast majority of drivers are law abiding.

Wasn't Bob Ainsworth a Labour Party Minister a long time ago?

Bob Ainsworth is the Labour MP for Coventry North East and a former Secretary of State for Defence. He is not part of the Government nor the Home Office,

He was a Home Office minister 10 years ago!

That isn't an old undated archive report is it? This smacks of the graduated penalty scheme that was proposed but never enacted under the Road Safety Act 2006. The comment about dealing with mobile phones via exising proper control laws suggests it pre-dates the statutory ban on mobile use, which back up the idea that the report is 'historical' rather than 'hysterical' :D

I was going to say the summary law and ticket offices of most police forces couldn't cope they are already talking about binning VDRS and parts of the fixed penalty system to cut workloads.
