I'm selling my old car and received this email:

Thank you for getting back to me, My name is Sergeant Richard Brady before we proceed further.
can you assure me that it’s in good condition because I don’t want to be disappointed buying this from you.
I’m ready to pay your asking price but due to the nature of my work,
i will not be able to come for the inspection because of my work i am a soldier and I’m in afghanistan , I can’t make any calls right now, I havent seen my family in 5years and am giving an opportunity to meet them this christmas so i want this car to be a homecoming surprise. My family lives in berwick.
I would have called you and discuss about this transaction, sorry for that but I’m able to access email anytime as I’m making use of PDA,
so the only quickest payment option is PayPal, I make the payment via PayPal since I’m requesting this transaction to be done via PayPal,
i will be responsible for all the PayPal fee/charges on this transaction and if you don’t have an account with PayPal, its pretty easy,
safe and secured to create. Just log on to http://www.paypal.com. I hope we can make the deal as fast as possible?
I have a Pick Up Agent that will come for the Inspection and take care of every necessary paper for me.
The Pick Up Agent will also handle the pick up after i have send the money to your PayPal account, will like to see more pics.

I need the address where the agent will meet you and send me a paypal money request or your PayPal email address so i can send the money now. Thanks A lot
Sergeant richard brady

Think it's kosher, 'cos I don't?

Reply saying you have a Ferrari 458 Italia for sale at £100, does he want that too?

I replied saying I wanted his regiment, army number and family's UK address.

I'm not holding my breath, besides I've sold it anyway.

I'm sure it's a scam, the 5 year tour flagged it for me, plus why buy a car in Essex if his family is in Berwick?

I suspect the scam is in Paypal. Actually it is - the paypal link seems to go to a fake site.

Isn't the usual length of tour six months?
This has scam written all over it.

The odd grammar is a giveaway that it is most likely a scam. I don't think this has been written by a Sergeant in the British Army!

Absolutely...Army Sergeants are sticklers for grammar.

But I quite agree, as Blackadder once said: "I smell something fishy, and I'm not talking about the contents of Baldrick's apple crumble".

It's about as kosher as a pork chop!
I'm not bothered about the old Romanians and Bulgarians but the Old Etonians scare me rigid.

Your PayPal account will be credited, not just for the asking price, but even with a bit extra so you can pay the guy who picks it up to cover shipping costs etc.

You give him the car, documents and some cash.

A day or so later, your PayPay account is raided by PayPal as the payment is a fraudulent one from a hacked account.

So, not only do you have no car and no payment, you have also lost additional funds from your bank account.

Simple!

Hope this helps . . . .
