The motoring bit in todays Mail on Sunday reveals that the new VW Polo has a "post-collision braking system"

aka a tree/wall/other road user?

Here's a link to the Euro NCAP website explaing how it works :)

I must admit, I'm surprised it's taken someone this long to think they could do that.
I mean, the ESP in all cars are able to brake individual wheels e.t.c, so it should be common sense to create a system which detects whether the car is still moving after the airbag has been inflated, then sends a signal to the ESP to brake all the wheels.
Quite simple in it's logic. Probably fiendishly complex in the real world.
