I have seen or know the meaning of 99% of these signs, but one I have not seen or heard of before is the "Stop Police' one, the meaning is "Vehicles must not go beyond the sign where displayed by a police officer or traffic warden".

To me the meaning still does not make sense, seems badly worded / poor grammar, can someone re-phrase what is means?

Thanks

The sign certainly is a strange one! But all it means is you cant go past where displayed by Police/Traffic Warden.

Chapter and Verse;

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... ter-03.pdf

The sign to diagram 633 may be placed only by a police officer in uniform or a person acting under the instructions or authority of the chief officer of police. The sign gives an instruction to drivers not to proceed beyond it. It may be placed on a highway for a period not exceeding seven days in accordance with section 67 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. By virtue of regulation 54 of the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002, a police officer, or anyone acting under police instructions, may place a flashing blue lamp with the sign.

We need a lot less signs!

I would not be the least bit surprised to find that most road users do not maintain a high degree of familiarity with them. Such a situation is, in effect, being invited.

Isn't there talk of digital signs being introduced on roads now? Designed to vary the message, similar to motorway signs on more high traffic areas..
