I came across a post on LinkedIn saying that there's a new version of Roadcraft (and motorcycle roadcraft) coming on 28th August. It will be available as PDF download and hard copy.

Police Foundation here (not much info): http://www.police-foundation.org.uk/publications/roadcraft

Saw this too and was surprised by the secrecy surrounding the apparent multitude of improvements over the previous edition.

I guess we'll wait to see when it gets published and then I can decide if it's worth buying (I suspect I know the answer to that already)

EDIT - Just read the link and interesting that they're looking to make another DVD.

The current DVD is looking rather dated now!

I understand that RoADAR have been involved in providing input and will have their logo on this edition. I'd be surprised if the same is not true for the IAM.

Also available from Folyes @ £12.91 (free delivery) vs Amazon's £13.99. Might need to wait a couple of days longer though! Note that I have no interest in either company. (That said, if you're feeling generous, feel free to PM me for a link from which I will get cashback (Foyles only))

Got mine today. Only had a quick glance through it, but the main standouts from that...

A little more structure has been added to the information phase with a Take, Use and Give getting more prominence with a little TUG diagram.

Fixed input steering is presented as "the standard hold" and emphasized as being the default (as opposed to being an alternative to pull push) for small changes of direction, with pull push recommended for larger changes.

A revamped section on speed selection, and a discussion on how drivers can come to underestimate speeds.

Overall no significant changes in practice (as you would expect), just perhaps emphasizing some areas that observers/tutors will have been doing with their associates anyway.

(I don't have my old copy to hand to directly compare, so it is possible I am slightly misrepresenting the differences, at my age things like memory become tenuous  )

Hurray! Does it give any guidelines about how large a deflection before changing to pull/push?

"Your hands should not pass the 12 o'clock position"

I'm quite pleased as it is close to what I tend to encourage my associates to do, even though it is heresy for some of my fellow tutors. My view on that has always been if the examiner acceptsit it is good enough for me!
