Just a thought, how about a map showing the location of "us lot", classic-audi use zeemaps.com, it's optional, i.e. the indivdual puts his or her location on a google type map and then all of a sudden we find how close we are to each other.

Just needs as admin to set it up I think. I usually, for a laugh, and security, have my location half a mile out to sea where I live rather than pointing at my drive where the car is....

Agreed, It's safer just to locate by Town/City rather than postcode

Best place to start would be to add a location to your profile. That way, anyone reading your posts knows where you are.

Some location names are not necesarily indicative of your location and a map will show an overview of the member's locations.

If I wanted to find out for instance "which members live in Cumbria?" without a map, I would have to access every members profile, jot their location on a map and a few months later do it again,

You could always start a thread titled: "which members live in Cumbria?".

Easy alternative -

start a new thread with all the counties of the UK listed and ask members to post a reply to which they are in

Then, every so often, add those members next to the relevant counties by editting the first post

The trouble with that is two-fold. First is that some counties are quite large so participants may find they are closer to others across a county boundary than within it, and second that a text list is hard to visualise.

If you had never travelled long distance e.g. London to Edinburgh and you were planning a journey (non motorway)

Would you

A. list all the major roads and towns that you would use :?:
or
B. use a map :?:

I rest my case

I would not be planning a journey but looking to see who was in my county or a nearby one and that is easy to do with what I suggested

I rest my case :)

That would be the most useful method if you were driving solo and didn't have a satnav, although having an atlas as well would be good.

And yet I note that you still haven't acted on the suggestion that you add a location to your own profile. Why not?

When I look at the list of registered users, 9 pages out of 24 have locations so it would be easiest for Moonwatcher to populate the list from readily available information, including his or her own location.
