Nice site.

"All IAM Examiners are qualified Police Class I Drivers which is the highest standard awarded in Britain. "

I believe the class 1/2 grade has gone now. It's "Advanced".

Although every Motorway Police driver I meet says they're Class 1!

Thats right the grading system is now abolished. It is just one 2 week course (in the Met anyway and I guess elsewhere) to reach the "Advanced" grade (so long as you pass) and a possible 2 week pursuit input depending on whether or not it is bolted on to the course. There are now levels nationally from 1 to 4, which are competencies and not marks of distinction.

I think the only qualification the IAM has required for examiners is that they are / were police Advanced drivers. I suspect that they have always prefered class 1 over class 2 but I don't think it was ever a requirement. No doubt someone is now going to tell me I'm wrong, but I'm used to that!
