BBC BREAKFAST - Thurs 26 April - Driving assessments!

On this Thursday morning, 26 April, the BBC Breakfast show will be discussing the possibility etc of introducing drining assessments every so many years.

Presumably with the view to a DSA assessment every few years, or would us "advanced" drivers be allowed to just show our RoSPA certificates to get out of it?

That would be a nice thought Chris, but if that were the case how would the DSA con money out of us?
do however think in principle it is a good idea, it is how it is done that worries me.

It is exactly those thoughts that I have out on my e-mail to them. If more do the same and include on what time scale each assessment should be for eah age range, then maybe we might get an airing.

I wouldn't be in the least surprised if an advanced driver failed the DSA test. Especially as one of our local RoSPA examiners (a recently retired police officer) failed his ADI part 2! (He reversed using mirrors without sufficient shoulder checks)

So did anybody else watch this on Thursday? They had a follow-up today where one of the presenters (Bill Turnbull?) had his driving assesed by an IAM observer (I think). The piece was too short of course and he was picked up on the inevitable speeding, use of gears to slow down and mirror use but a useful insight for those outside the fold.

I wish the BBC would pick this up properly - they seem to dabble at it without commiting to a proper series promoting advanced driving. I'm sure the with the right format it could make entertaining and educational viewing for the average driver.
