Noisy Parcel Shelf

Sorry this might win the competition for most boring thread ever but does anyone have any tips on how to deal with a noisy parcel shelf rattling about.

It's a normal ford focus parcel shelf with nothing on it or under it and it is the correct fit but just rattles like anyone business. And before you all say 'drive smoother' it rattle even at idle sometimes.

Just bugs me a bit - maybe some thin sticky strips of foam around the lip...

You'd need to know which bit is loose then just pad it there.

Next time consider buying an estate or a saloon they don't have a parcel shelf.

It shouldn't rattle - my ST and the 'old focus' have rubber gromits and I get no noise in either...might be worth checking yours...remind me tomorrow.

And yes it does get a prize for the most...yawn...sorry I was nodding off there. :|

On the seat or in the boot, actually putting them on the shelf is dangerous should you have a front or rear end collision they will take your head off.

We'll have a look tomorrow Dug.

Rubber in the right places is the answer. Many Fords have rubber sleeves (no sniggering at the back there) around the spigots that act as the hinge at the seat end. However they do split and fall off. Then it should potentially have some more little rubber pads on the upper surface of the rear edge under the window, which apply some pressure downwards when the hatch is shut. Lastly, there should be some rubber pads underneath at the sides. Plain old draught excluder will work fine there.
