Over-taking a block of cars

The "safest" way to overtake a block of cars that are close together? Don't do it.

Surely that depends on the situation? How far ahead can you see? How many cars? How close together? How fast are they travelling?

....and how likely is it that one of them will decide to pull out just when you're part way through your overtake?

If you treat each as an individual overtake and exercise care it'd be no more likely than a 2 car overtake... But I'd rather take that risk than run along behind a train of cars doing 30 mph for mile after mile

By not doing it, how are you achieving the objective of overtaking a block of cars safely?!
