Hi all, 1st time poster and brand new to the site so I am sorry if this is the wrong section.

In June 2009 I was diagnosed with epilepsy, I was a HGV driver so I had to give my job up, I was told I had to go a year seizure free before getting my licence back, my last seizure was December the 16th 2009, I have seen my specialist and he told me to send my D1 form back and they would do the rest, I have filled the form out and spoken to the DVLA and they told me the form had been recieved and everything is going ahead as planned, they then sent me a cover note out so if my driving licence didn't come back on the 17th of December I could still drive,

The Question I have is this-Do I need to see my doctor to get the all clear before I start driving again, it does say on the cover note that I need to satisfy the medical conditions and get the ok from the doctor ( I dont know if this means my doctor or my specialist)

Many thanks in advance

Potter

Hi potter and welcome.

If you are not sure, it would be best to speak to the DVLA and ask what the procedure is to satisfy the medical requirements.

I hope you get back on the road soon and can perhaps get involved in advanced driving? That's what this site is all about and there is a wealth of advice, tips and encouragement to develop driving skills.

Thanks for your reply Martine, I used to drive class one HGV's, so if anybody needs any help with them I can maybe help, I know Rog from another site as well, lol.

I want to pass my advanced driving test, if not for the lower insurance!!

Hi Potter - welcome and good to hear from you :D

As already said - call DVLA medical section and ask them exactly what they want you to do

The DVLA are likely to contact your doctor anyway.

Your Specialist is a doctor and he/she will have a more in-depth knowledge of your condition than that of a GP, If in doubt though as has already been said contact DVLA.
