MGF: I am aware of how some employers attempt to persuade employees to accept less than ideal equipment or to provide inadequate training. I have been sufficiently vocal about this to annoy one former emloyer greatly.

The fact remains that as an individual you are largely responsible for your own safety, and not feeling empowered to complain is hardly a reason to take excessive risks with your own health and safety. Being dead does tend to reduce your capacity to work and enjoy life. Refusing to work is one thing, making employers aware of risks and consequences is something entirely different. IMHO of course :)
