Rover 620 airbags

Almost certainly a stupid question, but sod it:

My Rover 620 driver's airbag module is due for replacement this year. Anyone know if new ones are still available now Rover has carked it? (I know people are selling the modules on eBay but replacing my 1997 one with something yanked out of an M-reg is of course rather nonsensical.)

While I'm at it, does it actually matter about getting it replaced?

I'm not sure if there is still the advice to replace the airbag module at 10 years.

Parts should still be available, try X-Power.

May be worth seeing what your insurance company has to say about whether not replacing it (as it's advised by manufacturers) will affect your insurance...

Only a guess at best, but since getting an MOT is not dependent on having your airbags changed, then the basic test of "roadworthiness" should surely be passed.

This topic has crossed my mind before, with many cars being over the suggested 10 year limit for an airbag swap even now.

Personally, I suspect it's a manufacturers' ruse to get out of any possible liability claims if they fail to operate correctly, and that they'd probably be good for 20 years or more.
