How many organisations can you name that use blue lights other than on ambulances, police and fire vehicles. I can think of 10 at the moment. 8)

When I was living in the UK some years ago and working for them, I recall ICI had an emergency response vehicle based at their Yalding works in Kent. The vehicle was dedicated to response to chemical spillage incidents, and was, I recall fitted with blue lights. That part of ICI has since been bought by Syngenta, based in Guildford (in 2000). I don’t know if the EV was retained or not.

Once on an M1 entry slip I was passed by a motorcyle which had - I'm virtually certain - blue lights and siren, but it was emblazoned with the name of a recovery service. Anyone know what that was about (suggestions that I was hallucinating should be kept to yourselves)?

Parking removal trucks? Surely not! Not that i am disagreeing with the answer, but if that is correct it is ridiculas.

Lots of factories/refineries have there own Emergency service vehicles and also drive on the road on B&2's which opens a big can of worms... if anyone with legal experience would like to input on that point plase feel free, as it was a big worry for me when i was in the driver training field.

The regs define who can use blue lights, if people want to argue they qualify for the regs where Police believe they don't, that's a matter of fact for the court to decide.

Of course not all blue light users have the same exemptions from other offences.
Some only red traffic lights, some red lights & keep left bollards & even less both of those & speed.
Any views expressed are mine & mine alone.

Knew it would cause a stir!

I have never known them to respond nor need to... I wouldn't worry too much...

Sorry James, you are wrong. Hampshire BASICS is one scheme which uses blues, and if you look at the UKEV site you'll find more I'm sure.
