1 Hanger Lane Gyratory System, London (28%)
2 Spaghetti Junction, Birmingham (26%)
3 Marble Arch, London (25%)
4 Elephant and Castle, London (23%)
5 South Mimms, A1/M25 (19%)
6 M4/M5 interchange, Bristol (18%)
7 Magic Roundabout, Swindon (17%)
8 M6 junctions through central Glasgow (14%)
9 Mancunian Way junctions, Manchester (13%)
10 Sheriffhall Roundabout, Edinburgh (11%)

Anyone got any more?

I don't really see the problems with 8 & 10, 10's quite easy to get round

Not one motorway (excluding their junctions with other roads, above) scores more than a yellow (low-medium) risk - which is what you would expect.

The EuroRap criteria start with >20 KSIs in 3 years over a (roughly) 20km stretch.

Whereas the Actuary report is merely an opinion poll Not very useful as a road planning / engineering tool.

PS: If you want a scary moment, look up Spain Now perhaps you can see why Spain qualifies for so much EU money to improve its road infrastructure.

The M6 in central Glasgow?

Sherrifhall is just a signalised roundabout - nothing dramatic? 31 slight injury collisions in 3 years for a 6 arm roundabout...

Agreed, the Sheriffhall roundabout sits on the Edinburgh City Bypass, which scored as one of the safest roads (according to EuroRAP) in Scotland.

A628 A616 - Penistone. - well, fairly near.

What's wrong with this one? It used to be a crossroads by the Flouch Inn, but it's been a roundabout for several years now.

Not too surprising in my own experience. The junction that is perceived to be dangerous quite often has a good safety record. Possibly due to this perception and road users exercising more care as a result?

The test data for the UK is 2001-2003. Changes to road layouts after then would not affect the road rating unless re-tested.

I would guess the list is the brainchild of a marketing department with the main purpose of getting a company name in a paper with a link to concerns about road safety rather cheaply. However they are usually good to start conversations and find out other opinions so they do not do any harm.

I would guess the list matches fairly closely with the busiest junctions, which is what most people would find difficult.

I was very surprised to see this on the list, it has to be one of the simplest and easiest motorway junctions I have come across

here 's a photo of it

Compare that to this, just up the road, which is poorly designed and seems to have incidents on a regular basis.
