A bit of fun!

If money was no object, and you had a big enough garage - what would you fill it with (and why) :-)

I'm not going first as I'd probably forget a couple!

Dunno really, but cars wouldn't occupy much of it. Well sorry, but nobody else has yet replied at all.

If pressed i would say:

Mark 2 Ford Zodiac convertible.
Mark 1 Austin-Healey Sprite.
Jaguar 3.8 Mark 2 Saloon.
Jaguar Sovereign V12.

I wouldn't bother with anything produced in the last 20 years. Perfectly satisfactory progress and enjoyable motoring could be had with any of the above. They all relate to a better era y'see. :)

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Alfa GTV6 (like mine, only in good condition and usable rather than rusting away)
Alfa 75 (like Hanna's only in better condition)
911 CS (from ~1988)
Capri Injection
Alfa SZ (for continental trips)
there is only the road, nothing but the road ...

I'll assume that space isn't completely limitless, otherwise I'll be here all day.......

M5 (E39 because I appreciate engineering more than gadgetry)
RS4 V8 avante because they sound awesome and I like fast estates
A TVR (not sure which one) because, er, well who could resist?
A golf GTi for town use and so the girlfreind can pick me up when the TVR breaks down or puts me in hospital
Something very track focussed. Caterham maybe....
And probably a couple of spare bays for my latest whim :D

Oh, and I suppose I have to get a puke, sorry, puce coloured MX5 so I can learn to drive the rest

I would do some further restoration work on my current Mini Clubman Estate in addition I would have the following:

1275cc MK1 Mini Cooper S - One of the fastest and most stylish production Mini.
ERA Mini Turbo - The fastest ever production Mini.
Mk1 Mini Van in tweed grey - Pure class.
Austin Allegro - I like square wheels.
Leyland Cub - A cool little bus.
Leyland Routemaster - Would make a nice double decker motor home, a very fast bus too.

Reliant Regal van - Plastic Pig has huge character.
Hillman Imp - A scottish small car.

Finally in non british vehicles I would have a Mercedes Benz O405, a fabulous bus to drive.

Incidentally I would need a very large garage to park this lot in.
Andrew: PCV, IAM Car
Smoky - Pronounced as Smokey, a unique little Mini.

It's an interesting term "Dream" garage, given most of us never get to drive the cars we dream about, and sometimes when you do you're disappointed (like meeting childhood heroes).

While I'm sure I'll miss plenty of cars off the list, a few I can remember thinking would be fun to own:
1) Mk1 Escort Mexico - sideways action rally car
2) Peugeot 205 T16 - Group B nutter rally car
3) Lotus Esprit V8 - GT for touring
4) TVR Griffith - the noise
5) Landrover defender V8 - white roading fun
There's probably some sort of daily driver/barge needed, but not sure that would live in the dream garage ;)

Jealousy is never attractive but I must admit my neighbour has just about got the ground sorted upon which I could fill his hanger (opening onto his own ex-WW2 airstrip) with my perfect garage. His house isn't to bad however the selection in the hanger isn't to taste. Where he has a couple of helicopters and light aircraft I would have.....

An M3 for the daily commute to work....(well maybe not daily, but occasionally)
An Audi RS6 for anything I couldn't get in the BMW.
A modern Ferrari, in red, even if just for the noise.
A Radical SR8 just for the Nurburgring....
A reasonable size camper van.
A box trailer to go behind the camper, in which I can put......
A selection of motorbikes, including a dirt bike, a track bike and something sensible.
A Spitfire Mk.IX (that's the type with eight machine guns, not a leaky hood)
Something with four seats and aerobatic.....A Siai Marchetti would do.
A two seat open biplane, probably a Jungman.

And of course not forgetting whatever the wife may want.....

There're some reasonably excellent stable fillers in this list now :-)

I'm sad enough to have thought about it a little ;-) I think I've even got the colours sorted out :-)

Red MX-5 - nuff said :-)
Red E30 M3
Purple E36 M3
Blue E46 M3
Red Austin Healy 3000 - pretty damn lovely to look at - Visions of lovely warm summers days blatting around the countryside
colour changing TVR Tamora
Black Rangy sport.
Grey/Silver Aston Martin - DBS Volante
White 1972 911 targa - after one of these since I first saw one - so young I can't remember how old I was!!
1995 Guards Red 968 CS.
mid 90's Green Bentley Turbo R

And yeah ! I do like red cars !!

edit:
forgot Ferrari F430 :-) in red :-D

I change my mind on this about every 15 minutes, but today's dream garage would be:

(1) A Mark 1 Golf GTi - black, please.
(2) An Alpina B3S for taking Theo to nursery at about Mach 3
(3) An original (i.e. wart-shaped) Fiat Multipla turbo-diesel for practicing roadcraft with no power or grip
(4) A Mazda MX5 of some sort - probably a Mark 2 with skinny tyres and "a few subtle modifications" by Stressed Dave.
(5) A Bristol Fighter S for high days and holidays.

I'm a bit surprised to see that there's no rear-engined Porsche in there. I think that might be an abberation. Then again, Porker's 944 has the best steering of any car I've ever driven, and the nicest steering wheel. Oh, I don't know... :D
Only two things matter: attitude & entry speeds.

Are you just checking whether I am awake, Dave? Don't listen to him, folks, he blew his credibility with this unjustified slur. Personally, I did not like the E30 version, and I have loved all the versions since! (Now I'm the one to need a hard hat).

A bit surprised that you would have driven a DBS Volante, haven't they only just announced that?

LOL you and Nigel are more alike than you think he loves E30 BMWs he has two and is always seeing what a good drivers car they are.

At least with an E30 M3 your not going to be mistaken for a pimp, drug dealer or alround wide boy

I can't believe how many of your dream list I've actually driven (not necessarily the colours though). I think only the TVR (although I've driven all the others) and the Bentley have escaped thus far. I'd be inclined to ignore all the M3's except the E30 - it was the original and best and all the iterations after have been poor by comparison.

And a couple of extras for the list:

Lotus Esprit V8 (not the one with the twin-turbo, but the ZR-1 engine that GM wouldn't let them use)
Alvis Fox with an active differential (my first ever project vehicle)
Ferrari 550 Maranello (probably the best driver's road car ever - ducks to avoid stefan1)

Mention of the Bentley Turbo brings back the memory of following behind John Lyon as he drove one of these round Snetterton. The lean of the bodywork on the bends was amazing :D
