Thread resurrection warning..!

After Jont mention the Dream Garage yesterday it got me thinking. I was going to start a thread and then, with a quick search, came across this one…

I was thinking along the lines of one of those car clubs where you don’t own the cars but buy credits and you exchange credits for drives in the cars – What would you like to see in there in addition to those already mentioned?

Triumph TR5 – Hard to think Triumph were building these at the same time as Citroen were building the SM below!


Citroen SM – Had a drive in one of these when I was about 18. Amazing car… I must admit that I do like and admire the French flare (and quirkiness) for car design. Also like the DS, C6 and the Renault Avantime.


Alvis Speed 20


Aston DB9 Vanquish – Any Aston really..!


Lotus Carlton – Mad!

4. New K1400S (when it comes out)

Inspired by my current visit to Scandinavia, I'm really wanting a Tesla Model S as a daily. They're making everything with an internal combustion engine look so 20th century.

Of course would still need a Caterham and possibly a LR Defender for more specialist applications!

Well, I would have to have a minimum of 5.

1: Overfinch Range Rover - For turning up to parties where the car park is a field and impressing people.

2: BMW 750i - For long journeys with a lot of motorway cruising.

3: Overfinch Land Rover Defender - For pulling things around and general load carrying.

4: Aston Martin DB5 - Why not?

5: Bugatti Veyron - Again, why not?

Oh, this is a good way to while a way a few minutes...

1. Cayman GTS. Love the practical nature of these yet they are still a two seater.
2. Jaguar XJ, pre 2009. These have long been a dream car of mine. It's something about the shape/image of them.
3. Defender V8. Grew up with so many Series 2a & 3. This would just be an evolution.
4. Unimog 4023/5023. Because the Defender above, would be a bit small sometimes. Would fit it out with a HIAB and perhaps a small, very fast RIB for those days when you just fancy a quiet drive and a little messing about in a boat (and yes, I grew up watching Thunderbirds).
5. Bently Continental. For when you might need 4 seats and something more modern than the Jag above. I was going to put Rapid (discounted because Mrs CB can't touch the pedals) or Panamera (already got one Porsche on the list).
6. Ariel Atom - whichever has the least powerful engine and, in reality, something which would terrify me. Probably towed to the track by the Defender or hoisted onto the Unimog.
7. Chris Craft Corsair 36. Might have to work on the colours/trim to tone it down a little, prefer wood and brass to the glitter and chrome. That is, if it can be towed by the Unimog. If not, then a Sunseeker on a mooring if that still counts as garage.
8. Tesla Model S. Took one of these for a test drive a little while ago. Fantastic use of technology, phenomenal performance for a 5 seat salon that is almost silent. Seem a very smart company too.

I'd have anything that made me appear to be a better driver than I am.

Obviously these are very personal choices - but I'd suggest you could find many more exciting options for number 5 (hypercar). The Veryron is fast and beatifully built - but not a driver's car. A Pagani Zonda is just as gorgeous, but with a naturally aspirated 7 litre Mercedes V12 and manual box the driving experience is reputed to match the looks. Or you could go for the ultimate driver's car (IMO) at about 1/3rd of the cost - a Porsche Carrera GT. Few cars are purer from a driver involvement perspective.

BTW, the other choices are fab. Have always fancied an Overfinch of some description...

The Bugatti is merely because it's my dream to own such a machine.
The funny thing about me is, I'm genuinely not interested in sticking the tail out on bends and hurtling along A/B roads. I'm much more interested in general luxury and yet still have the ability to put my foot down and surprise annoying tailgaters. (Hence the Overfinches - imagine the shock of someone when they come up behind you in an defender, flash their lights, and suddenly, you're doing 100 and flying away from them)

In fact, if I could add 3 more cars to the list, they would be:

6: VW Phaeton W12 - Simply because it's an excellent, unassuming car with a delightful turn of speed.

7: Audi RS4, any version, as long it comes with the 4.4l V8 - That V8 is supposedly an amazing engine, and I'd like one, ta very much.

8: Audi R8 V10 - Why the blimming heck not?! I've got a bleeding Bugatti too!

If you save your pennies...

My garage is ex-council. I fitted an electric door to it some years back and it still gets some surprised looks and comments from the neighbours. More so than if it was on something posh.

I would like a bigger garage, and a covered walkway to the house would also be nice, so I don't have to worry about the rain. But you can't have everything.

It may be just the photos that have been chosen for this piece, but interesting that an exhibition showing the evolving design of automobiles ... across Europe and the US has a distinct American look/feel - manufacturers of some of the worst cars going..!

My dream garage would contain about 30 cars so in the interests of self-restraint the highlights would be;

Ferrari 430 Spider F1
Sierra Cosworth RS 500 3-door (Moonstone paintwork)
Maserati Gran Cabrio in Rosso (Trionfale) - simply beautiful
Lamborghini LP 560-4 (in metallic grey)
BMW M5 (E39)
BMW E30 325i Sport

I'm always undecided about this - old or new, fast or just interesting? How about:

1. AC428 - no, not a Cobra, but the gentleman's version
2. Any Boxster with a big enough engine. Mine is good but the newer ones have more power. Caymans are excellent, but you can't put the top down on a sunny day.
3. Ferrari Dino 246
4. Bentley (Mulsanne) Turbo R - got to have something with 4 seats, after all
5. Range Rover (a proper sized one, not the one with the silly name), not necessarily Overfinched. Something to go properly off-road in.

No for me the two Ferraris and Lambo would be filed under the same category in my mind...I'd stick with the Gallardo and spend the reamining money on something else. And why would you want an M3 and an M5?

Sierra Cosworth RS 500 3-door (Moonstone paintwork) - Spring/Autumn blats (only in the dry!)
Maserati Gran Cabrio in Rosso (Trionfale) - simply beautiful - Summer long distance road trips
Lamborghini LP 560-4 (in metallic grey) - Summer driving holidays
BMW M5 (E39) - Journeys where I need to transport other people and luggage
BMW E30 325i Sport - Winter blats
BMW E46 M3 CS - Track day
Ferrari 599 GTB - Long distance road trips
Lotus Evora - Track day

And I meant to mention the LHD Ferrari California for continental road trips.

As you can see I wouldn't have trouble spending the wonga...
