Courtesy Car

I've been given a Mazda 3 as the courtesy car for my MX5 being serviced.

Fine, I thought. I had no idea what the letters MPS meant.

My God! What an absolute animal!

Yes the MPS mazdas are more than a match for my ST...allegedly...

How long have you got it for...what's your thoughts on it?

Havent driven an mp3 but a friend is a manager for a ford/mazda dealer and he prefers the ST over the MPS and the RX8 and he has a pick of what he drives. hE thinks the st out handles the mps!

For the purposes of evaluating it properly, I felt I had to go to work and back again on a variety of roads. :lol:

I was quite tempted to phone in sick!

My thoughts, from the point of view of an ignoramus about powerful cars;

It was quite skittish in the wet this morning. Under power, it was still wheel spinning slightly in 4th (6 speed box). In the dry, it was a lot more sure footed.

It has some clever stuff to stop too much power being applied when you have lock on. I read about it on t'internets. In fact, it has all sorts of clever stuff to stop you doing stupid things, and to keep the power under control. It still felt involved to drive, though, mainly because I was having so much fun.

Overtakes are effortless. The move from follow to contact is quick. I was completing most of them on about half throttle.

The turbo lag was not that noticeable.

The driving position was quite high up, much like my Civic. It was relatively easy to make the controls smooth and the gear changes good. The revs fall quite slowly, which I like.

I can't believe that they are giving this out as a courtesy car. I am not saying I am any good, but some poor old dear would probably have a heart attack. :shock:

Needless to say, I had to go on an extended run in the MX5 to reacclimatise to it.

And you were thinking of getting a Fiat 500?? So glad you came to your senses and bought the GT2 instead!
