All AD-UK types (and other interested parties) are invited to the May meeting of Bristol Advanced Motorists.

Our speaker this month is Stephen Haley, author of Mind Driving. He'll be talking about the book, and the origins of the project.

Admission is free (although you may wish to buy a raffle ticket or two) and coffee (sadly not free) is available.

The meeting starts at 7.30, and is held at the BAWA centre in North Bristol. .....on Tuesday 26th.

Might try to get along to this, if I may - I've got the book so it would be interesting to see/meet the author!

Hmmm... trying to work out weather it's worth a four-hour round trip, probably after an arduous day... Probably not worth the risk I'm sure Mr Haley will touch on... :(

He's due to speak for about an hour, with time for questions and chatting afterwards. I'd like as many people there as possible, but realise that four hours on the M4 is a lot to ask.

However, it would be great to have some people at the meeting who have read the book, or were involved with the recent DfT 'Learning to Drive' consultation. This is a rare opportunity to meet someone who is trying to change the way these skills are taught.

Stephen was excellent - he covered lots of the salient points in his book and whilst I read it a while back, it was really good to hear it from the author. Stephen's approach makes so much sense and like the best ideas, you wonder why no one has done it before and why it's not been adopted by the DSA many, many years ago. Our group chief observer - kept uttering; 'brilliant" and "stunning' during Stephen's talk and he's been 'into' advanced driving for quite some years.

I can wholeheatedly recommend Stephen to any other IAM/ROSPA groups who might like to have him as a speaker - he does live in Southampton so I guess he will have to be selective on visiting groups.

Nah, what he needs is a long range chauffeur.

Best wishes all,
