Interesting, and a few things I'd like to have a go at myself, especially the braking.

However, and though I'm not very militant about any particular version of The Way, I can't help wonder how you actually transfer technique from a risk-free sandbox to legally-compliant driving on the road.

The pupil said it: his emergency braking will be better when called upon, but the rest? Not so much - and if it's just extremes to show a point applicable in normal driving, then don't we get that merely from watching?

If I did it, I'd be looking for some more road-applicable stuff like emergency lane changes, braking whilst steering etc.

Thanks for posting that, I really enjoyed it.

The notion of not looking at the thing you're trying to avoid was proven to me during an intimate encounter with a padded tree during a skiing lesson. It sounds obvious to look at where you want to go and not at where you don't but putting that theory into practice takes some repetition to get right.
A wise man once told me that "it depends". I sometimes agree.

That has the official title of target fixation and is a common problem for motorcyclists, cyclists, pilots, etc.

I've done a couple of Car Limits' "Activity Days" which are good fun but with 30 people all doing the same thing, and no in-car tuition, have limited application. There are also 4 person days which involve in-car tuition using people like Mark, who is a great coach - I've had the benefit of his advice on a couple of occasions, and one of my most admired drivers was almost entirely a product of Mark's coaching.

It was proven to me during a day at Car Limits.

Ah, the perils of target fixation

In addition, I rather liked the illustration of smoothness, or lack thereof.
