In Spain it is not at all unusual for people to 'coast' downhill in the belief they are saving fuel.

However and thankfully things have moved on - a lot.

Sorry to be catching up a few days late. The gnome suggested to me that you should generally keep the revs between peak torque and peak power.

Of course it depends but I am generally a lower rev user - only go above two thirds when looking for max acceleration, which I hardly ever do in a high performance car when limited to 60 mph.
