A request from TVP Trafpol friends - please avoid this area like the plague at weekends over the next 6 weeks if you can.

There are works going on at the roundabout and queues were stretching for several miles down A404 and M40. Marlow bypass entrance closed (and to all those people who thought they would avoid traffic by sneaking the wrong way up the slip road, the NIPs in the post...)

I went for a blat round the area yesterday and it was rubbish in the area. All the white roads full of short-cutters. I went to Didcot instead, after an hour getting out of the place.

Thanks for the info. I work as a courier, based in Slough, and often use that roundabout to get onto the M40 towards Birmingham and the north.

Depending how long the queues are, I could go down the M4 a bit more, and use the A34 north to take me to the M40 (although I've never used that road all the way before - is it dual all the way?). Or could use the M1, and get stuck in the roadworks between J6 and J10 instead. :(

Oops, just read the post carefully and said to avoid at WEEKENDS!!!

Anyway, every now and again I do get weekend work, so it's handy to know nevertheless.

It's pretty localised -- ie from Slough to Brum, I'd use the Watlington 50mph roads to get up to Stokenchurch (5/6 on the M40), or at a push, Maidenhead, Burchett Green, Henley, Christmas Common, M40.

He's right, you know.

I wasted 75 minutes doing 2 miles on the A404 Northbound towards the roundabout on the M40 at about 4pm this afternoon :-(

Thanks for that, it's just as well. I've got a Slough to Manchester and Glasgow tomorrow at 9am! :)
