Anyone use one of these devices and if so what do you think of it?

They seem to get a lot of good press!

Um, so if I'm going around track in a rusty montego with balding tyres, knackered shocks, 3 cylinders working (fourth's got a broken spark plug) and I forgot my glasses today, I'm better off putting a ratchet on my seatbelt, than sorting all that out and having some skill at driving?

Even if the claim were essentially true, I could surely do better by having a proper 6 point harness, anyway.

It really bugs me when adverts make clearly impossible claims.

[/rant]

On the other hand, I'm sure it's a useful thing if you find yourself slopping around your seat more than you'd like to and happen to have £50 to throw at the problem.

That's really the point - you don't need to go to the trouble of fitting a proper harness to get some significant gains.

If you've got leather seats and a big arse ( ) it does help, without going to the extent of a full harness, which makes opening the passenger window or turning the radio on virtually impossible when you're strapped in.

Nice little video here:

Like I said, I'm not saying the device isn't good, I'm sure it's great, just that "unparalleled" is just a smidgen disingenuous.

Don't get me started on the "statistics" adverts love to throw about...

Of course to fit a 6 point harness safely you'd also need suitable bucket seats with harness cutouts in the correct places, and you'd also need to modify the inside of the car to safely mount the harness, particularly the rearward straps (which in a 4 seater car would prevent use of the rear seats) - ideally to a roll cage cross bar. Badly fitted harnesses are very dangerous and in a crash can do far more harm than good.

I've almost been tempted by these, but I'd really like to try them and see how good they are first - Chris perhaps I can have a look at yours at the weekend.

Do these have any effect on pre-tensioners?

Just a thought. There must be a limit on how much tightness is desirable.

Having had a look at Chris's at the weeked - it seems to work very well for such a simple piece of kit. Think it might well end up on my Christmas list of gadgets.
