As of today the IAM have taken over the 'AA Motoring Trust' - which will be the research and 'advocacy' arm of the IAM.

Can only be good the IAM is taking a higher profile - lets hope they get the correct messages across.

Indeed, it will be interesting to see where they go with this.

I would also be interested to understand why it was felt that a new organisation was required to fulfil this role, although the press release at least partially explains this (research etc.).

Crikey...where do you start?

* speed doesn't kill?
* don't stop learning after the L-test?
* road rage gets you nowhere?
* be able to stop in the distance you can see...etc?
* advanced driving is fun?
* control and skill not flat-caps!

...for starters and there must be many, many more.

Yes just talk to my brother on the gun laws post Dunblane...he was a real enthusiast target shooter and run a work's gun club but the law is stiffling the sport - even though it's in the Olympics.

In fairness to DfT they are going through a consultation process re the young drivers/learners debate...although I'm not sure if mere 'public' like us have a way of contributing. Anyone know if we can voice our thoughts to the DfT in a simple way like a weblink or survey?

By way of example the link shows a list of organisations consulted by the DfT before making recommendations to Parliament.

Both the IAM and RoSPA are there.

Perhaps one day ADUK will be?
