Since all new cars have ABS (AFAIK), how has training and test criteria altered? Presumably it has!

Well the recommended text book for learners and instructors is 'Driving: the essential skills" by the DSA. It suggests: "...not touching the clutch pedal until just before you stop as this help with your braking and stability."

BUT...it later goes on to say:

Note: This routine is not necessarily correct if you have ABS brakes. Refer to your manufacturers handbook.

So a bit of a copout really.

I've never had a problem with teaching, "brake very hard, clutch down as soon as the brakes take effect."

The one I have teaching me taught me to slam on the clutch and brakes at the same time.
