I think a bit of coomon sense has to be applied to the "ascending vehicle has priorlty" theory, if there is more than one vehicle coming down a narrow road it makes sense to let them down first, there may not be room to get 2 cars out of the way for you to proceed upwards.

If as in the OP' one vehicle is damaged it is mainly down to impatience and should be put down to experience rather than anyone being at fault.

Different vehicles demand different approaches on all narrow roads not just narrow hills
2.5 Million miles of non-advanced but hopefully safe driving, not ready to quit yet
