It was definitely 63 - my dad never stopped going on about it. Any time we had snow, "that's not as bad as '63".

Now, whenever the younger (than me) generation get a bit of sun, I'm saying, "it wasn't as bad as '76". :)

It's interesting that one of the highest birth-rates in the UK happened around 9 months later than the bad winter of '63 - I was one of them. :wink:

I wish you kids would stop going on about your fathers' experiences in the snow of '63. It makes me feel even older than I am. That was the time that I started work in NW London at 16. I rode a 50cc Honda motorbike half way round the North Circular every day, and never had a problem. I can still remember passing a number of abandoned cars during the worst of the snow, albeit with both feet dangling mm above the snow in readiness to support me when the coefficient of friction ran out. So that's the answer to such conditions: naff all power, very skinny tyres and frost-bitten finger tips! No skills required.
