RoSPA Diploma

Discussion on Advanced and Defensive Driving.

Postby Lynne » Fri Jan 13, 2006 11:29 pm

Trying to 'psych' myself up to perhaps do this later on in the year. Not cheap :? plus I'll lose a week's work.

Anyone done it?

RoADA Dip would be more use to an ADI though.

Why would it? I would bet that 99% of potential customers wouldn't have a clue what Roada etc means, they just want to pass their test.

I thought it got you into Fleet driver training - easy/steady money (compared to dealing with 17 year olds).

I suppose you'd get more 17 year old lads queuing up if you were ADI/HPC and played on the "High Performance" bit though.

Yes it does get you into fleet but spent years listening to company car drivers whinge about this and that so not sure if I want that again ...however it would be a backup resource I suppose.

17 year old 'Kevins' (no offence to any real Kevins I'm sure you're all lovely..I know a few and they are all too :) ) are not my ideal pupils, don't get me wrong, they usually learn quick enough ..not sure if they need any encouragement from a HPC member :?

Also interested in getting involved with the Driver Improvement Scheme so have e-mailed the local one.

Am going out on my own soon and leaving the AA.

I have a bit of an itch to do more than teach learners but just can't put my finger on what I want to do though.

..As decisive as ever..Image

As someone who doesn't earn a living from driving instruction I did the Diploma via my local RoSPA group and found it to be very useful in improving my knowledge and understanding of Roadcraft. I use this knowledge now to help train the observers within the group.
It isn't easy by any means particularly the theory papers for which you have to achieve an average 80% passmark with a minimum of 75% on either of the two papers.

All that said I am led to beleive that it isn't as hard as the ADI test mainly because I didn't have the pressure of my job relying on my passing it.

The RoSPA Group Diploma has now stopped and other qualifications which in my view are a dulling down of the quality have been introduced.
Guess thats progress

All very valid points... but are we trying to improve our driving and the driving of others, or do we just like collecting certificates and badges?

No offence made to those who have a collection of certificates and badges... well done to them.
