Whats people's views on the sections to be in the manual. Titles....

Roadcraft (noting we can't use their copy) is laid out as

Becoming a better driver
Pre Drive checking - Cockpit drill
The system of car control
Attitude
Commentary
Observation
Acceleration
Using Gears
Braking
Steering
Skidding
Signals
Positioning
Cornering
Overtaking
Motorway driving
Speed and safety

Any additions/omissions to this list? Should it be ordered differently? Extra info?

Shall I kick it off then? :)

What about Observation chapter or is this going to be included in 'better driver' subject?

Also I reckon Speed and Safety should be further up the list as opposed to (what I think) is a bit of an afterthought in Roadcraft; it's partly down to attitude isn't it.

Signals are another thing that could come further up as a basic function before we get into the human 'motor' (as in physical not car!) skills, it's part of the 'information' phase anyway.

Cockpit Drill/Roadworthy check chapter would also be useful.

Well, these are my thoughts on first reading.....

Agreed, Lynne.

Speed (inappropriate), safety, and signalling are - I find - the major concerns on the roads today.

From a personal standpoint, cockpit drill / roadworthiness is something I do not carry out as often as I should

Would a section on 'Attitude' be ok?

We have a title of using gears, would that include automatics?
Could it be benefical of having a seperate section?

Just thinking of getting people in the right frame of mind when they get in to their vehicle.

I would say move the "Skidding" section to the bottom of the pile, and bring "Overtaking" higher up the list. I never actually did this on the advanced runs or on the test

How about one on commentary? I use a commentary when driving just to keep me aware of situations arising.

So when we going to see something Darren?

Not pushing, just need something to pass the day at work sometimes and a good bit of literature can cure my blues. :D

lol, Adam, if you need something to pass the time at work, your probably in the wrong job. lol. My days are full and busy.

I was hoping other experts on here would contribute and bits would be taken from the forum. I'v put up the canvass and brought traffic in, the artists can contribute :-)

The Worcestershire Group of Advanced Motorists have a good section that deals with most areas of advanced driving. Could we use their start as a basis for this forum? Askiing their permission obviously!

Is Nigel part of that group?

I believe the majority of that material is Copyright to David Wornham of the group.

How about something on driving during darkness and adverse conditions.
