Many groups will still offer an assessment for free if you approach them direct.

Am I right in thinking that joining a local RoSPA/RoADAR group is quite inexpensive and you get an initial assessment and ongoing inputs for free?
This certainly was the case 9 years ago from memory.
Fleet ADI, RoSPA Dip, RoADTest examiner.

"Quite inexpensive", I would say very inexpensive (!). With few exceptions, RoADAR group membership is less than £20 (mine is now £15) and all training is free. The only additional costs would be the "book" and test fee. Assessments are still possible but, due to past insurance worries (unfounded), offers and take-ups are fewer.
