Something So Simple........

Discussion on Advanced and Defensive Driving.

Whilst out riding shotgun with my 'White Cap' friend on his demo drive (see A Morning With A Pro) we were hanging well back from a HGV on the motorway in lane 1, intending to take the next exit. Perhaps 600 metres or so before the countdown markers begin Class1, through good observation and mirror work notices white vanman in lane 2 hanging back from us in case we intend to move out to pass the HGV, now the clever part...Class1 gives about 4 flashes of L/H Indicator, vanman now knows we have seen him and do not intend to move out, so goes past and on his merry way, but acknowledges the thoughtfullness as he goes by. Something so simple... everyone knows what everyone else is doing. Would anyone have thought of doing this, I would'nt, I would have waited for the countdown markers before signalling.

I would've thought about it but probably put my indicator on and left it on.
This would obviously be wrong because it could look sloppy (as if the driver has forgotten to cancel the signal) and other vehicles may misinterpret the signal.

:?

I have often left a space between me and a vehicle in front on dual carriageway / motorway for annother vehicle to enter so they may pass a slower moving vehicle. So many times the driver has not seen the space and basically I have used more gas for me to pass safely do they start indicating to come into my lane and then are right up my chuff to get out.

It's about time and plenty of it!

Good tip though Mike.

Any more? :D
