Hatched Chevrons

Discussion on Advanced and Defensive Driving.

I am now of the opinion that the intended effect of these hatched areas is psychological. They give the impression to drivers that the road is narrower than it really is to reduce speed and to discourage overtaking.

As long as you are not crossing a solid white line you can enter them. You will of course have to bear safety in mind, but you have to do that if you were crossing a normal centre line or a hazard line.

If you have an accident while in the area you will have to justify your actions, but the same applies even if it was a centre line.

This is pure speculation of course...don't quote me in a court of law.
