Is the 'Highway Code' law?

Just having a discussion on another forum, half the members are saying it is, the others not.

I thought it was under the;

CUR = Road Vehicles (Construction & Use) Regulations 1986

RVLR = Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989

Thanks in advance!

AdamW I'm shocked you didn't just go grab your copy and have a look to see what it said on the back :shock:

Back of The Highway code wrote:A failure on the part of a person to observe any provision of The Highway Code shall not itself render that person liable to criminal proceedings of any kind, but any such failure may in any proceedings (whether civil or criminal and including proceedings for an offence under the Traffic Acts, the Public Passenger Vehicles Act 1981 or sections 18 to 23 of the Transport Act 1985) be relied upon by any party to the proceedings as tending to establish or negative any liability which in in question in those proceedings.

Road Traffic Act 1998

Basically, dont follow it and if you get sideways or end up in a pickle and you were doing something which contravened that little document, it may well be used against you.

My copy was at home and I was at work, so that's the reason for the question.

I'll make sure to put my copy in the car.

Despite their large numbers ants flow freely because of their understanding and purpose. As a driver your job is to move in, within, and out of the flow of traffic causing the minimum disruption and upset to others. Everyone then benefits, including you.
