Woohoo! Went out and bought me a Honda CB 400 Superdream, and am now enjoying punting around on it.

Amazing buy really, its an 83 on a Y plate, with a genuine 21k on the clcok. The guy I bought it off is a retired chap who buys these and does them up in his spare time. This one has been completely rebuilt, re sprayed, stainless steel exhaust e.t.c. and runs as new. Insurance was only 88 for the year so I am on the road, on a decent bike for under £800!!! The chap has virtually created something that could appear on the front cover of a Haynes Manual

Will get some piccies up soon. Anyway, my plans are to be really strict with my POWER checks, replace the filter around every 2k miles, change oil around every 5k miles, and generally keep it dry and clean.

Any other advice / views appreciated.

Look after it well, get used to how it should be so that when things vibrate and almost or completely fall off that you spot the difference and put it right.

Then if you ride a lot you will discover the fastest machine you have ever ridden could be faster and you upgrade and then it all goes silly

I can remember the first Superdreams I saw '77 ish

Out one evening - me on my CB175 'Supersports' [yeh, right . . . ] and mate on his Tiger 100 twin - we cam through Godalming(?) and there they were in the window of a small bike shop!

We parked just along the road, and went back to stare in . . .






Two girls left back on the pillion seats weren't too chuffed that our attentions had been distracted

Great restoration by the look of it. Some of these peeps spend more money on restoring then they sell the bike for - more love than business.

So when you get bored with your new Superdream, what next? Is this part of a masterplan to superbiking or are you content with a 400?

When I was just about leaving school a CB250N was the stuff of dreams. Never got beyond a dream, alas, but I think but I've had as much fun driving rwd Alfas of the same era.

I bought a new Kawa Z650C3 in 1979...I've still got it.

Used to have a Yamaha RD400 (great bike but very different).

What other serious bikes have peeps had? There must be a Z1, GS1000, CB750 or a ubiquitous Fireblade somewhere here? Anthing Italien or a Harley or 2?

keep it roadworthy and you will NEVER lose money on that, in fact it'll probably go up in value

Its funny I was only just remarking the same to my wife... Its nice to know I could sell at any point and actually walk away with no loss and maybe even a profit!

The CB9 was the first thing I sold and made a profit on, To a Bike Shop. as well......and I didn't pay bottom book for it either, Bike pricing is very seasonal,you will get more for a bike in April, than you would in January and depreciation is low year on year.

My first was a "S" plate GPZ500S which I got in 2002.
Paid £2k for it private sale.
I just passed my direct access and thought I would go for something sensible for my "1st Big Bike" (well it was big compaired to the cb125 I have been pottering around on

Had that for about 18 months and sold it for £1900 and brought a new Triumph TT600 which is still my current bike.
I thought about swapping a few times but it does everything I can ask.

Fantastic commuter bike, tours very well and goes …
