Motorcycle Position on Motorway

I see on various websites that guidance is given on where to position a motorbike, that is whether and when to be in positions A,B and C on a single carraigeway. But these websites usually say their guidance is valid "except on motorways" without given any indicataion on why "except on motorways" or what they recommend instead.

Specifically, I cannot see any specific guidance in How to Be a Better rider or in Motorcycle Roadcraft, The Police Rider's Handbook to Better Motorcycling .

Is there any kind of common view on this please ?
