They certainly used to - anyone know if this a policy change?

It's a pain because when it's busy you don't get a view early enough to use acceleration sense to slow and now have to brake.

martine wrote:Thanks guys - as a consequence I've just rattled off an email to the Highways Agency asking them to check the signage as I'm convinced the early signs are missing (just could be my nadd obs of course...both ways )
I'll tell you what their response is.

Thank you for contacting the Highways Agency Information Line. In response to you question regarding the M4 Roadwork's between Swindon and Reading,
It is not a requirement that these signs are to be erected and it is at the discretion of the police who would request them to be placed. There are 50 mph signs and speed signs at 300m staggered on both sides of the carriageway and the current arrangement has the approval of Thames Valley Police.
Thank you for your enquiry

So it seems crr003 was right.
Not quite sure what Mr. Fairbrass means by '50mph signs and speed signs' unless he's referring to the 'Average Speed Cameras' signs - or the reference to 'staggered' for that matter.
I think it's quite poor they are no longer required...means I can't always use acceleration sense and have to brake to be down to 50 in time.
I suppose it's a cost saving thing?

He may be refering to the repeater signs through the site?
